The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has voiced concern following the Ukrainian attack on Russian war correspondent Evgueni Poddubni on August 7, in the Kursk region near the Russia-Ukraine border.
Poddubni, a correspondent for VGTRK, was severely injured when his car was targeted, an incident occurring amidst ongoing Ukrainian shelling in the area.
The IFJ emphasized the responsibility of all parties in the conflict to ensure the safety of civilians, including journalists, and noted the growing number of media workers injured or killed since the conflict began in February 2022.
The Russian authorities have responded by declaring a state of emergency in the affected region and opening a criminal investigation into the attack.
