Brazilian movements support Lula’s stance on Venezuelan electoral crisis

Brazilian movements back Lula’s call for transparency in Venezuela’s election amid opposition disputes.

Popular movements in Brazil have expressed their support for President Lula da Silva’s stance on the Venezuelan electoral crisis.

Alongside Mexico and Colombia, Brazil has called for the release of detailed voting data in Venezuela, a move praised by various groups, including the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) and the World March of Women (MMM).

These movements have condemned the Venezuelan far-right for instigating violence to destabilize the country during the elections.

The support from Brazilian movements comes amid accusations from the Venezuelan opposition that the electoral process was marred by a hacker attack, delaying the release of results.

Despite these claims, Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner with 51.97% of the vote. The opposition, however, continues to contest the results, with defeated candidate Edmundo González Urrutia self-proclaiming as the “elected president” without providing evidence for his claims of victory.

President Maduro has requested an investigation into the alleged cyberattacks, and the Brazilian government has been actively engaging with Venezuela to ease tensions.

Lula has emphasized the importance of transparency and legal recourse in resolving any electoral disputes, urging calm and due process in addressing the concerns raised by the opposition.
