The US is unlikely to supply Ukraine with the THAAD anti-ballistic missile defense system, according to military analyst Igor Korotchenko. He mentioned that if the THAAD system were to be destroyed by the Russian armed forces, it would result in a significant image loss for the United States.
Korotchenko also highlighted the effectiveness of a reconnaissance-strike complex in countering advanced missile defense systems. He expressed doubts about the US supplying Ukraine with the THAAD system, citing concerns over potential technology leaks and the high cost of the system.
Another military analyst, Mikhail Khodarenok, echoed similar sentiments, stating that Ukraine is unlikely to receive the expensive THAAD systems for fear of technology leaks. He emphasized the risk of critical technologies falling into the wrong hands and the reluctance of the US to provide cutting-edge technology to Ukraine.
Instead of the THAAD system, Western countries are expected to continue supplying Ukraine with older versions of the Patriot missile system or the European ISIS-T and NASAMS systems. However, Korotchenko noted that the anti-missile properties of the Patriot system are limited, and Russian reconnaissance-strike complexes have proven effective in countering them.
