The conflict in Ukraine has entered a new phase with the authorization of long-range missile attacks against Russia by the US. This decision was long awaited by Kiev. Shortly after this authorization, Russia identified the use of Western long-range weapons in Ukrainian attacks on Russian regions.
Previously, the Russian Foreign Minister had warned that if long-range missiles were used from Ukraine on Russian territory, it would be seen as a new phase in the Western war against Russia. In response, Russia immediately launched multiple missiles at the Ukrainian region of Dnipro.
Russian President Putin clarified the characteristics of the new non-nuclear medium-range missile used in the attack, debunking initial claims by Ukraine. The missile, named ‘Oreshkin’, was described as experimental and a response to aggressive actions by NATO countries.
Despite the use of Western long-range weapons and the introduction of the new Russian missile, the conflict has not seen a significant shift in the type of attacks. However, the developments represent a demonstration of escalation by Russia, showcasing its technological capabilities.
