Opposition leader aims to take power in Venezuela on January 10th

In an interview with the Agência Efe, Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia stated that he is prepared to take office in his country on January 10th. He mentioned his goal to return to Caracas and assume the presidency.

González also expressed his belief that he will not be arrested upon his return to Venezuela, despite facing a warrant for his arrest on various charges. He mentioned being morally prepared in case of imprisonment.

Discussing the potential transition of government, González highlighted the possibility of coexistence between popular bases and the chavismo movement in Venezuela. He emphasized the political force of chavismo and its lasting presence in the country.

Furthermore, González’s commitment to recognizing the decisions of Venezuela’s justice system regarding the elections was reiterated in a letter addressed to Jorge Rodríguez. The letter was signed during his refuge in the Spanish embassy in Caracas.
