The US’ approval of $385 million arms sales to China’s Taiwan region has been strongly condemned by the Chinese Ministry of National Defense. Senior Colonel Wu Qian emphasized that this action violates the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, gravely undermining China’s sovereignty and security interests.
The spokesperson expressed strong dissatisfaction and opposition towards the US, highlighting that such actions harm China-US relations and military ties, as well as endanger peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits. The US has a notorious record of arms sales to the Taiwan region, meddling in internal affairs and undermining peace.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities were criticized for recklessly sacrificing the safety of Taiwanese compatriots to pay protection fees to the US. Wu warned that pursuing independence through military means will lead to self-destruction, emphasizing that the Taiwan question is at the core of China’s core interests.
China urges the US to uphold its commitment of not supporting Taiwan independence, cease arming Taiwan, and take concrete actions to maintain relations between the two countries and their militaries. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army will continue to strengthen its military preparedness to defeat any Taiwan independence separatist attempts or external interference.
