Iran’s representative at the OPEC governing body, Afshin Javan, praised the growing influence of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in the global energy landscape during the 26th Ministerial Meeting in Tehran.
Javan highlighted that GECF member countries collectively possess 70% of the world’s gas reserves, produce 40% of global gas, and are responsible for 47% of pipeline gas exports and 51% of LNG exports.
Since its establishment in 2009, the GECF has made steady progress, particularly in fossil fuels, increasing its share in the energy mix over the years.
Javan expressed confidence in the GECF’s ability to enhance its position further by welcoming new members and emphasized the continued relevance of gas and oil in the global fuel mix until at least 2060-2070.
