A French naval official announced the deployment of the Charles de Gaulle Carrier Strike Group to the Indo-Pacific region, marking the first time in over four decades.
The mission began on November 28 as the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier set sail from Toulon, accompanied by a nuclear attack submarine, a supply ship, and frigates.
The French carrier strike group will conduct joint exercises in the Indian Ocean with countries like India before heading to the Pacific to engage in maneuvers with the US 7th Fleet and other allied navies.
Experts believe France’s deployment aims to demonstrate its military power, strengthen partnerships in the region, and showcase Europe’s strategic stance in the Asia-Pacific for security cooperation.
