The Iranian Embassy in Italy informed IRNA about a meeting between Ambassador Sabouri and Secretary General Guariglia at the Italian Foreign Ministry. They discussed the situation of Iranian citizen Mohammad Abedini, who is in an Italian jail on unfounded accusations.
They also talked about Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, arrested in Iran for violating laws and still in detention. During the meeting, the ambassador mentioned that Iranian authorities have provided Sala with necessary support, including phone calls with her family, out of humanitarian considerations.
Iran expects the Italian government to show similar compassion towards Mohammed Abedini and work towards his immediate release. The ambassador emphasized the importance of reciprocal actions based on Islamic clemency.
The discussions also touched on the diplomatic efforts needed to address the cases of Abedini and Sala, highlighting the importance of cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries in resolving such consular issues.
