Araghchi dismisses speculations on Tehran-Washington exchanges

Irans FM denies specific messages exchanged, distrust remains.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi refuted media speculation on diplomatic exchanges between Tehran and Washington, emphasizing that no specific messages have been sent or received.

Araghchi highlighted that the trust between the two nations remains fractured due to past actions by the US, stating that rebuilding confidence would require concrete steps rather than just “beautiful words.”

He reiterated Iran’s stance that the root of distrust lies in the US’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and subsequent re-imposition of sanctions under the Trump administration.

Efforts to revive the agreement under the Biden administration stalled over disagreements on sanctions removal and verification mechanisms, with Iran emphasizing the need for tangible actions to restore trust.
