In Paraná, the release of ex-police officer Jorge José da Rocha Guaranho, convicted for the murder of a municipal guard and ex-PT treasurer, was ordered on Friday.
The decision came a day after Guaranho was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Curitiba Jury Tribunal. Prior to the sentence, he was under house arrest for health reasons.
Following the trial, the defense filed a habeas corpus in the second instance arguing Guaranho’s health issues necessitated continued house arrest.
After analyzing the case, Judge Gamaliel Seme Scaff of the Paraná Court of Justice agreed with the defense’s arguments and ruled that Guaranho will return to house arrest, wearing an electronic ankle monitor.
