Brazil takes over Brics presidency and hosts summit in Rio de Janeiro

Brazil leads Brics and hosts summit in July for climate and dollar topics

As of early 2025, Brazil assumed the rotating presidency of Brics on Wednesday (1) and is set to host the bloc’s summit in Rio de Janeiro in July.

The bloc, originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is expanding and welcoming new members and partners since last year.

The inclusion of new members was defined in October 2024, at the 16th Brics summit in Kazan, Russia, when a new category of bloc partners was created.

Brazil also aims to address environmental issues and combat climate change in dialogue with COP30, happening in Belém, Brazil, in November.
