China backs Iran’s defense of sovereignty amid tensions with Israel

China supports Iran’s defense of sovereignty after Hamas leader’s assassination in Tehran.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong support for Iran’s sovereignty and security following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

In a phone call with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, Wang condemned the killing, calling it a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a threat to regional stability.

Wang emphasized that Haniyeh’s assassination undermined efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza, complicating peace efforts in the region.

He stressed that such actions could further destabilize an already volatile situation.

Iran has promised a harsh response, blaming Israel and the United States for the assassination. Iranian leaders, including Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, have vowed to retaliate in accordance with international law, viewing the incident as a direct challenge to Iran’s national security.
