Colombia supports Panama against Trump threats

Gustavo Petro stands with Panama in defense of sovereignty

Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed his support for Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on Sunday (22) in response to recent threats from US President Donald Trump.

Petro stated that he will stand by Panama in defense of its sovereignty, criticizing Trump’s demand for the return of the Panama Canal and tariff reductions.

He argued that handing over the Panama Canal to Panama would be more beneficial than plunging the region into poverty, contradicting Trump’s claims about increased migration to the US.

In response to Trump’s threats, Panamanian President Mulino reaffirmed the country’s sovereignty over the Panama Canal, stating that it belongs to Panama and will remain under its control.
