Egypt and Somalia oversee the signing of a military cooperation protocol.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud signed a military cooperation protocol in Cairo, strengthening the longstanding ties between the two nations. This agreement is part of broader efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in defense, and to promote stability in the Horn of Africa.

The meeting also highlighted the growing economic relationship, with trade between Egypt and Somalia increasing by 88% in the first half of 2024.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties across various sectors and addressing regional challenges while maintaining Somalia’s sovereignty and unity.

Historically, Egypt has been a key supporter of Somalia, dating back to President Gamal Abdel-Nasser’s era.

This latest agreement continues the tradition of strong Egyptian support, aiming to ensure peace and security in the region.
