French Farmers Mobilize in Paris for Better Working Conditions

Farmers threaten to block the French capital if government doesnt respond

French farmers resumed their protests on Sunday, directing several tractor columns towards Paris with the aim of blocking the capital starting this Monday, if they do not receive responses from the government.

For a year, the country’s farmers have been carrying out a series of mobilizations that were calmed after then-Prime Minister Gabriel Attal implemented urgent measures. However, farmers continue to denounce the slow implementation of these measures, demanding immediate action and opposing the ratification of the EU-Mercosur agreement.

The farmers now hope for a constructive dialogue with the authorities to address the implementation of these measures. Coming from different parts of the country towards the capital, they did not block roads on Sunday due to the return of the Christmas school holidays.

However, the president of the Coordination Rurale union, VĂ©ronique Le Floc’h, did not rule out the possibility of “punctual” blockades if the situation does not improve. “I think the situation could get more difficult,” warned Le Floc’h, lamenting the brief detention of the union’s general secretary, released on Sunday.
