Ginkgo Leaf Sparks Discussion on Sixth-Gen Fighter Jets

PLA releases music video showcasing readiness to defend motherland

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theater Command released a music video titled “Zhong Guo Ren (Chinese People in English)” on its official WeChat account in celebration of the New Year on January 1, 2025. The video highlights the determination, will, and ability of officers and soldiers in the theater to remain vigilant, ready to fight at any time, and resolutely safeguard the reunification of the motherland.

Military expert Zhang Junshet explained that the video combines images of combat readiness of troops from various services in the PLA Eastern Theater Command, as well as multiple military exercises around Taiwan island. It features new equipment like the “ginkgo leaf” and the Type 076 amphibious assault ship, symbolizing the PLA’s ability to fight back against any attempts for “Taiwan independence.”

In response to a recent incident where a musician from Taiwan received a warm response in Taipei but was attacked by the “greencamp,” a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council highlighted the song’s lyrics promoting unity and Chinese identity. The video aims to foster deep friendship between compatriots across the Taiwan Straits and promote peaceful development of cross-Straits relations.

The appearance of the “ginkgo leaf” and advanced defense equipment in the video has sparked speculation about China’s alleged sixth-generation fighter jets. Zhang mentioned that the new military aircraft discussed online have powerful stealth performance, high cruise speed, and advanced avionics systems. The video serves as a stern warning to separatist forces seeking Taiwan independence and demonstrates the PLA’s combat capabilities to defend national sovereignty and security.
