The budget cut package announced by Finance Minister Fernando Haddad last week has sparked discussions on its impacts on the economy, businesses, and the general population, especially workers.
In addition to actions to reduce public spending as per the fiscal framework, Haddad also announced measures for tax reform, a promise of the Lula government.
Economist Diogo Santos, a Ph.D. candidate at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, emphasizes that the proposals come after pressure from the financial market, with Brazilian workers likely to feel the main impacts.
Santos points out that while the package is less unfair than it could have been, it still raises concerning issues that need to be debated in society and the National Congress.
