The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil announced on Monday that Indonesia has become the newest full member of the BRICS group. This decision comes as Indonesia expressed its interest in joining BRICS after the 2024 presidential elections.
With the approval of all BRICS countries, Indonesia’s entry aligns with the expansion process agreed upon in Johannesburg in 2023. The addition of Indonesia, with its large population and economy in Southeast Asia, enhances global governance reform efforts and promotes cooperation in the Global South.
During Brazil’s presidency of BRICS, key priorities include strengthening global cooperation and promoting inclusive and sustainable governance. The expansion of BRICS to include 13 new partner countries, including Indonesia, signifies a commitment to increasing collaboration among nations.
Indonesia’s official entry into BRICS+ further solidifies the group’s mission to foster cooperation and sustainable governance on a global scale. The expansion to include new partner countries reflects a collective effort to enhance multilateral engagement and decision-making processes.
