Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman extended Tehran’s condolences to South Korea and Thailand after a plane crash killed at least 167 people. The accident occurred when a passenger plane skidded off a runway and crashed in South Korea’s Muancity.
Esmaeil Baghaei conveyed Iran’s sympathies to the governments and nations of South Korea and Thailand, particularly to the families of the crash victims. The tragic incident took place at Muan International Airport, resulting in the deaths of more than 150 individuals on board the Boeing 737-800 jet.
As authorities switched from rescue to recovery operations, family members gathered at the airport, mourning the loss of their loved ones. The crash is believed to have been caused by contact with birds, leading to malfunctioning landing gear as the plane attempted to land at the airport.
The fire chief mentioned that only the tail section of the burning plane retained its shape, while the rest of the aircraft was unrecognizable. Recovery efforts were underway to locate bodies possibly thrown from the impact of the crash.
