Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi emphasized the traditional and historical relationship between Iran and India during the 19th Iran-India Political Consultations in New Delhi. Discussions included bilateral, regional, and international issues with India’s Foreign Secretary, Mr. Misri.
Economic relations, particularly concerning the development of Chabahar Port, were highlighted in the negotiations. Takht-Ravanchi also had a productive meeting with India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, reaffirming the commitment to enhance relations in various fields.
The 19th round of Iran-India Political Consultations underscored the long-standing historical and cultural ties between the two nations. Despite challenges such as US sanctions, India agreed to finance the development of Chabahar Port, with a deal signed last year allowing India Ports Global to manage the port for a decade.
Chabahar Port, strategically located on Iran’s coast along the Sea of Oman, serves as a vital trade link between the Indian Ocean and landlocked countries in Central Asia. India’s interest in Chabahar as an alternative to Chinese-funded ports in Pakistan reflects the port’s significance in regional trade dynamics.
