Following the 2015 nuclear agreement with six world powers, including the US, Iran accepted limits to its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the US unilaterally withdrew from the accord in 2018, leading to a confrontational “maximum pressure” policy against Iran.
Shamkhani underscored the significance of nuclear technology development in Iran, attributing the country’s progress to Iranian knowledge, creativity, and determination. He emphasized Iran’s scientific independence in the nuclear sector, which has unsettled certain global powers.
