During his visit to Mayotte, in the Indian Ocean, French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the population, acknowledging their frustrations with water and supply shortages following a cyclone.
The cyclone, named Chido, caused significant damage to the island’s vital infrastructure, leaving hundreds of wooden houses destroyed and disrupting essential services such as electricity and communications.
Macron assured the residents that water distribution will be prioritized, acknowledging the urgency of the situation and pledging support to the affected population.
The official death toll on the island from Cyclone Chido has reached 35, with many more injured, although the exact numbers remain uncertain due to immediate burials and undocumented migrants.
