Netanyahu rejects agreement with Hamas, faces security chiefs

Netanyahu’s refusal to accept a deal with Hamas creates tension with Israel’s top security officials.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is at odds with his top security officials over a proposed agreement to halt hostilities with Hamas, as reported by the Financial Times.

Senior defense officials, including IDF Chief Herzi Halevi, Mossad head David Barnea, and Shin Bet leader Ronen Bar, support the deal, believing it would ease regional tensions.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also favors the agreement, emphasizing the urgency of securing the release of hostages.

Despite this, Netanyahu continues to add conditions, complicating negotiations.

The recent killings of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah military chief Fuad Shukr have further strained the situation.

Netanyahu’s insistence on new terms, such as maintaining Israeli control over the Gaza-Egypt border and preventing armed Hamas militants from returning to northern Gaza, has exacerbated the discord with his security chiefs, who he has accused of weakness and incompetence.
