Outrage over Zemas new fare hike in Belo Horizonte metro transportation

Users denounce service precarity and lack of transparency amid fare increase.

The government of Minas Gerais, led by Romeu Zema (Novo), has announced a 6.49% fare increase in the metropolitan public transportation, effective from January 9th.

This measure, criticized by users, popular movements, and political leaders, was disclosed by the State Secretary of Infrastructure, Mobility, and Partnerships on December 30th.

Users express indignation over the fare hike, citing its impact on workers seeking formal employment and the financial burden it poses, especially for self-employed individuals.

Issues of service precarity, safety risks, and the impact on mental health and quality of life of workers are also raised by commuters like Bruna Pinto and Guilherme Braga.
