Parliament to discuss FATF issues in closed session

Iranian Parliament to review FATF matters in upcoming closed session

Parliament in Tehran is scheduled to convene a closed session next Sunday to address concerns surrounding the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), as stated by a senior Iranian parliamentarian.

Vice-Speaker of Parliament, Ali Nikzad, announced that the meeting is set to take place on February 2nd, with discussions revolving around the potential implications of joining the FATF.

While the Iranian administration is in favor of becoming a member of the inter-governmental body, there are opposing views within political factions, including those in Parliament.

Established in 1989, the FATF focuses on combating money laundering, terrorism financing, and safeguarding the international financial system, defining itself as a “policy-making body.”
