Participants at Ukraine Summit Oppose Lifting Sanctions – Macron

EU lacks legal basis to seize frozen Russian assets.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that participants at the Paris summit supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Moscow believe it is not yet time to lift anti-Russian sanctions.

Macron emphasized the unanimous agreement among participants that lifting any sanctions is premature until there is a clear path to peace.

He mentioned the intention to maintain economic pressure, particularly on the shadow fleet and certain industrial sectors, to continue working towards this goal.

Furthermore, Macron highlighted that the European Union does not have a legal foundation to seize frozen Russian assets under international law.
