The leader of PDT in the Curitiba City Council, councilor Marcos Vieira, requested the exit of the party from the opposition parliamentary bloc formed by PT, PDT, PSB, and Psol. The resignation involves both the councilor and the recently elected Laís Leão. The request was formalized on January 13th.
With the departure, the bloc now has only five members, dropping from seven. It is rumored that PDT had already shown signs of independence.
Councilor Camilla Gonda from PSB, who leads the bloc, expressed sadness over the decision, stating that being in opposition in the City Council is a daily struggle. She reassured the public that they will continue fighting for their interests and remain open to receiving feedback and suggestions.
Councilor Giorgia Prates from PT also mentioned that the councilors’ stances were already leaning towards independence. She emphasized the importance of strengthening a progressive opposition that aligns with the population’s expectations and advocated for unity to ensure the pursuit of social justice, rights, and dignity.
