PDT Leaves Opposition Parliamentary Block in Curitiba City Council

PDT leader requests exit from opposition block, becoming independent

The leader of the PDT in the Curitiba City Council, Councilman Marcos Vieira, requested the exit of the party from the opposition parliamentary block formed by PT, PDT, PSB, and Psol. This resignation involves both the councilman and the newly elected Laís Leão. The request was formalized on January 13th, reducing the block from seven to five members.

There were already signs of the PDT leaning towards independence, which was not a surprise to the block members. The departure is seen as a loss for the population, according to Councilwoman Camilla Gonda, leader of the block. Despite this, she reassures that they will continue to fight for the people of Curitiba daily.

Councilwoman Giorgia Prates from the PT also believes that the councilors’ positions were already leaning towards independence. She highlights the importance of reinforcing a progressive opposition that aligns with the people’s expectations. It is time to unite forces to ensure the fight for social justice, rights, and dignity remains strong.

The block, which included members from PT, Psol, and PSB, now sees two PDT councilors declaring themselves as independent. In the last election, the PDT was part of the opposition coalition that supported Luciano Ducci as the mayoral candidate, along with PT, PCdoB, and PV. The challenge now is to strengthen the opposition’s stance in advancing progressive agendas aligned with the people’s needs.
