Rebels take control of Damascus, Assad ousted

Islamic rebels have seized control of Syria’s capital, Damascus, overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad’s government. The insurgents announced the overthrow on Sunday, freeing unjustly detained prisoners.

The Syrian president has reportedly left the country, with high-ranking military officials confirming his departure before security forces abandoned their posts at the airport.

Russia, an ally of the Syrian government, confirmed Assad’s departure but did not disclose his whereabouts. The US President Donald Trump blamed Russia for Assad’s fall.

As the Syrian civil war escalates, Turkey, Russia, and Iran meet in Doha to discuss the country’s future. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov vows to prevent terrorists from winning, despite their claims of not being terrorists.
