Top russian security official arrives in Iran amid heightened regional tension

Shoigu arrives in Tehran to discuss security and cooperation amid tensions after Haniyeh’s assassination.

Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu arrives in Tehran to hold talks with top Iranian officials amid acute tensions in the region following Israel’s assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement last week.

During his day-long stay in Tehran on Monday, Shoigu plans to meet Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri.
