UN Coordinator in Iran Urges End to Middle East Violence

UN official calls for halt to ongoing cycle of violence

The United Nations coordinator in Iran emphasized the critical need to stop the continuous cycle of violence in the Middle East during a ceremony at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. He expressed deep concern over the loss of lives of UN colleagues in the region and called for an immediate end to the violence.

Highlighting the importance of upholding principles of peace, human rights, and shared prosperity, the coordinator underscored the suffering of civilians, particularly women and children, due to ongoing conflicts. He reiterated the UN Secretary-General’s plea for the protection of civilians under international law and stressed the necessity for a ceasefire, prisoner release, and a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Recognizing Iran’s longstanding relationship with the UN as a founding member, the official noted the cooperation between 18 UN agencies, funds, and programs in various areas. He expressed eagerness to enhance collaboration with the new government in sustainable development, support for vulnerable groups, and regional and international cooperation.
