Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez met with President Joe Biden in Washington on Monday. He stated that the White House expressed support for a change in government in Caracas.
Prior to the meeting, Gonzalez published a video urging the country’s military to “ensure sovereignty and the will of the people.” After the meeting at the US government headquarters, Gonzalez spoke to the press, emphasizing the US government’s commitment to the restoration of democracy in Venezuela.
Gonzalez also mentioned the intention to restore a three-party system in the country, referring to the Pact of Punto Fijo that was in place for 50 years. He highlighted the coalition’s communication with the Trump administration to maintain a close relationship in the future.
Before the meeting with Biden, Gonzalez posted a video directed at the Venezuelan Armed Forces on social media, stating that the military will help confront the challenges facing the nation. He affirmed his plans to assume the presidency on January 10 and called on the military to act with determination and unity to protect Venezuela.
