Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi highlighted the importance of releasing Iran’s frozen assets in other countries as a crucial step for the US to earn Tehran’s trust. Despite a history of deep-seated mistrust and hostility, Araghchi emphasized the potential for confidence-building measures.
Reflecting on past events such as the US withdrawal from the nuclear agreement and the assassination of Lieutenant General Soleimani, Araghchi underscored the long-standing history of animosity and mistrust between Iran and America. He noted that the Biden administration continued the hostile stance towards Iran, closely monitoring the new US administration’s policies.
Regarding the possibility of initiating dialogue with the new American administration, Araghchi highlighted the need for a compelling reason to open a new chapter. He emphasized the importance of observing the policies adopted by the US and the potential creation of a conducive environment for future dialogues.
In response to discussions on reviving the JCPOA, Araghchi clarified that negotiations would focus solely on nuclear issues, excluding regional matters such as Syria. He referenced previous meetings with global powers and affirmed the decision to limit negotiations to nuclear concerns.
